Glassphemy

A colossal container made from bullet-proof glass, Glassphemy withstands some serious blows as people throw bottles from the platform above in an effort to rethink and revive the act of recycling

Measuring 20 feet high and 30 feet long, people armed with glass bottles collected from local bars stand on one side of the structure, ready to hurl them at the awaiting group, who stand behind bullet-proof glass on the other end.

Each breaking glass activates a lighting system designed by Jason Krugman, and a bike-powered cement mixer polishes the resulting shards or they get ground down into sand, which will eventually find a home in a planned beer garden.

Gardening’s gone guerilla - You’ve seen them, you may
have looked away, but you’ve seen them. Those forgotten
areas of the estate, left to fall apart and fall into disrepair.
The municipal scrubland where nothing can grow... Or can
it? Turn the concrete jungle into a wilderness with our

BACSAC'S MOBILE GARDEN CONTAINERS

"Talk about food revolution! We searched far and wide for a mobile garden container, and finally found a line that's truly well designed, great looking--and well priced. We are proud to introduce to the U.S. market the BACSAC by a trio of Parisians--Godefroy de Virieu, Louis de Fleurieu and Virgile Desurmont. Suitable for all climes, BACSACs are made from a 100% RECYCLABLE material that is UV-, frost-, tear- and traction-resistant and is permeable to let soil breathe and drain with limited evaporation while protecting roots. This light-weight portable bag enables you to go from terrace to rooftop, from one address to another, rotating crops year-round."

Zoku Quick Pop Maker

"Fun to use and loved by kids, you can keep it simple or (with patience) you can make pretty pops by pouring in one liquid, letting it sit for a few minutes and then adding another layer or two of a different juice. Tipping the machine leads to wavy lines, and experiments with fruits and yogurts, or even more adventurous fixings like carrots and beets, present limitless options for creativity."

just an idea that seemed relevant, on the kids side of things, making things interesting to intrigue the audience, only downside is that you would have to wait for the Popsicle to freeze, the ong wait would be a demotivator in terms of motivation theory.

ECO POLO

"In collaboration with Tom Dixon we worked on the packaging and launch graphics for two special edition polo shirts commissioned by Lacoste. Tom's concept was to explore two very different materials and the technology used in the production process of the garment. The most eco-friendly way to package the eco polo was not to print on the packaging at all but use embossing instead. The techno polo is vacuum-packaged in screen-printed foil.

Since the Eco Polo was hand-died in India we work with a group of Bollywood painters for the launch graphics. Based on our research into this particular style we designed 3 collages as templates for the artists. They were then emailed to India, hand painted on a large format canvases and later displayed at Dover Street Market in London.

Where am i?

so where im at? still very vague with ideas bouncing around, have kind of narrowed it down i thnk, there are vague directions of im heading, they have the potential to overlap but still the ideas are very fresh and will need some research to refine ideas, also to see if its a worth while direction to take

so the ideas im ind of looking at revolve pretty much around food, the first one is the whole idea of sustainable food or packaging.

with food what really inspired this idea was the whole idea of the Post Carden, the whole thing about food is interesting, obesity is basically classed as an epidemic at the moment so its very much a currant and live issue. research has shown that cooking from home more often will prevent the onset of obesity, lots of current precedents visually and theory. example : jamie olivers lastest crusade.
somehow this whole healthy food and growing our own food can come back to community sustainability also environmentally, its awesome. a really good precedent of this is guerilla gardening: basically bombing city urban landscapes with seedings eventually growing into plants/ fruit/ flowers.

another approach to take with this subject is the currant accessibility of free fruit already, having seen something similar in Australia, after some research i found an organization has been formed to encourage th same cause

the google maps thing cold crosses over the real world and virtual world thing, love the fact its all user content driven as well.

so second idea, is more the packaging side of things, this one is so vague at the moment, but as evident from the post on the blog, a lot of the images and concepts that appeal to me are very tangible, a majority of them are product packaging.

something that triggered this idea for me is my MUJI speakers, a kit set pair of speakers which is environmentally friendly and also in my opinion looks pretty awesome. my kind of approach is to tae it to the extreme, laptop top, tvs, ipods. more really making statement about the currant overlapping technology eating it self type thing, and also something that kind of relates, is the relationship between the user and product.

"the product is the package and product combined" Louis Cheskin.

the whole idea of kitset itself is interesting, being able to fold flat is efficient and building it up is educational, somehow the two ideas can be fused together.

The Pharos Project

i think either Melissa or Bridgette talked about in class or maybe something from her blog something like this

this project just like nutrition labels provides vital information about the environmental and social impact of the product. Using the given criteria, the product is given a score which in turn hopefully will help the consumer into more thoughtful consumption.

Public farm installation

continuing with the food topic, this Utopian vision of the future where urban meets organic , where form meets functions to create a sustainable landscape.

"In an inspired move, P.F.1's concept borrows directly from elements found in nature. The farm's main structural components are cardboard tubes arranged in a honeycomb pattern, producing a sweeping vista that at once floats above the ground and glides along the earth. While most of the pipes act as beds for the 51 varieties of plants being cultivated, central conduits are intentionally left empty to allow farmers access to the crops from below"

"Overall, we think it's a great comment on the fact that food travels an average of 1500 miles to get to our plates, the environmental impact of this paradigm and the mounting challenges of feeding a rapidly expanding population. As both a living garden and communal environment, P.F.1 is a blueprint for the public to explore the issues"

Nice packaging but...

...seriously, WTF? for half a kiwi fruit? just one aspect of the sustainability thing is the whole individual serve thing, it isnt necessary at all, for convenience sake?

think about the amount energy that went into producing the packing and then to be shipped to various supermarkets across the country or globe and then where does the waste go, even if it does end up in the recycling bin, pretty sure the whole kiwi fruit skin would be a whole lot easier to get rid off/ decompose.

Also just reading through 'an omnivores dilemma' by michael pollen, this kind of crosses over but not really. the whole industrialization of food allows us to order from for example Macdonalds individual things off a menu that targets specific demographics from one family, whether it be a nugget, a burger, or a chicken salad, but then everything is wrapped up nicely like a present. the whole notion of the nugget is so far removed from actual chicken, made purely for convenience, and no waste, and as with most of the items par the salad, it is able to be eaten with one hand, 17% of american meals are eaten in the car.

not sure where i really went with this post, i think because it really has gotten ridiculous when we start packaging HALF A FRUIT, this is just a concept at the moment, but if you look in supermarkets these days, you can find small packets of cut apples and carrots already.

A Tiny Apartment Transforms into 24 Rooms

Gary Chang, a talented architect from Hong Kong, has equipped his tiny 330 square foot apartment with a sliding wall system that allows him to create 24 different room configurations.

As the suspended wall units are shifted around, the apartment transforms into a kitchen, library, laundry room, dressing room, an enclosed dining area or a lounge with a hammock
